SINGLES

What's wrong with this picture?

Forehand

Cover the angle!  When playing singles the only time I'm exactly in the middle of the court is when my opponent is in the middle of the court.  When my opponent is two or three steps away from the middle on the forehand side then I'm about one giant step away from the middle on my forehand side covering the angle.  What this does is force my opponent to hit his winner down the line which is a high risk shot.  You'll find that most down the line shots still come at an angle toward the middle anyway so you've really got both shots covered.

The picture in the upper right hand corner of this page shows a woman who is not totally prepared to return service.  You can tell by her racket position being to the side instead of in front of her that she will have a hard time if her opponent serves to her forehand.
